I've never been asked about secure destruction of printer ribbons before - but hoping someone else here has as we can't be the only people with this problem.
Our plastic campus cards include a name and barcode (with staff or student number); these are used for ID purposes and are printed by special printers at the point of student enrolment or staff induction.
It is possible to see these names & numbers on the spent printer ribbons. Colleagues are thankfully reluctant to bin these in the ordinary waste. Our usual confidential waste disposal contractor won't take them, and apparently the ribbons can't be incinerated because of the toxic chemicals which would be released (I have this at third hand, though). Colleagues have now reached the point where the storage of the spent ribbons is required for other things and so have come to their friendly neighbourhood records manager for help... and she's coming to the list.
All pointers and ideas welcome! I'll summarise any responses made directly. Thanks in anticipation.
