FUND – Facilitators’ Units Network for Debates – is a project funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Science in Society programme (project website: www.playdecide.eu). FUND encourages and supports small scale collaborations, networks and partnerships at city level to create dialogue and engagement activities with science related issues, and to exchange experience and know how between the networks. It combines an online, open source platform built on the successful “Decide” format with a support system providing training, guidelines, best practices and knowledge transfer, and a series of small subsidies (called “MicroFUNDs”) that has ignited 13 new partnerships across Europe. The project runs for two years (2009-2010), and is a collaboration between Ecsite, Sissa Medialab and the new economics foundation.
FUND has three main evaluation strands:
1) Professional growth impact
This strand looks at the increase in depth of understanding by the organizations involved in the project regarding effective two-way dialogue programs and needed mediation tools, and other components for implementing such programs.
2) Network impact
This strand will assess how broad is the base of contributors to and users of the resources created in the framework of the project. In particular, we are interested in determining if the connections supported by the MicroFUNDs generate a growth of the networks, with for instance unplanned or unexpected “spin off” projects and partnerships that go beyond the activities directly supported by FUND.
3) Local partnership impact
This strand looks at who are the MicroFUNDs receivers and what they say about their role and the benefits of the partnerships. This strand will also look at any ideas expressed by the partners regarding intentions or desires for future collaborative projects.
At this stage we are looking for an evaluator in charge of strand 2 who can assess the effectiveness of the project against the stated goals.
This evaluation strand is part of the evaluation work that is currently underway for strands 1 and 3. Strategies and results will be integrated to offer a comprehensive understanding of the FUND project outcomes.
The evaluator will be responsible for:
Developing the evaluation strategy together with the FUND consortium;
Developing the evaluation tools for strand 2;
Performing the evaluation;
Attending project meetings and workshops and advising the FUND consortium;
Reporting on project evaluation
We are looking for candidates who have:
Experience working with international collaborative projects;
Experience in research and evaluation of informal science education programs, and in particular of dialogue and debate activities;
A good understanding of the needs and culture within science centers and museums;
Willingness to travel to different locations in Europe to perform evaluation tasks and attend project meetings.
The evaluation budget is €12.500 – all taxes included, from June 2010 to February 2011. The budget shall include all travelling costs and overheads.
Interested applicants should submit a one page description of the methodology they would use to evaluate the project, as well as a one page CV by May 30 to Andrea Bandelli (email: [log in to unmask])
