Laudable as this list is, the problem with it is that it would make people too inhibited to speak their minds.
Original Message:
If we are to begin banning people, I think it might be useful to have
a list, in advance, of behaviors that could result in banning. A quick
skimming of recent posts brings these offenses to mind:
* scathing, heartless critiques of a member's poems
* scathing, heartless critiques of the poems of non-members
* the use of violent, sexist, heterosexist, gender, religious, racist,
or other offensive language in a poem
* the use of violent, sexist, heterosexist, gender, religious, racist,
or other offensive language in regard to another person
* persistent, 'coded', personal conversations among a few members
that, by their very nature, exclude the rest of the list
* insistence on continuing vicious personal vendettas among a few
members on the list
* slanders against the intelligence, integrity, honesty and physical
appearance and/or ability of list member(s).
* slanders against the intelligence, integrity, honesty and physical
appearance and/or ability of non-member(s).
* heated defense/dismissal of critiques of one's work and/or opinions
* list inactivity
* over-posting, as defined by list members, by number or length
* posts that go over the heads of most members; references to obscure
poems and poetic practices
* refusal to prove that one lives with cats
* slanders against cats
* flaunting ones publication success, or lack thereof
* overtly envying another's publication success, or lack thereof
* posting indecipherable poems
* persistent spelling and grammatical errors
* persistent spelling and grammatical corrections
* posting political poems
* posting non-political poems
* speaking off-topic
* stalking or harassment of other members, on or off-line
* persistent incomprehensible posting
* posting while drugged, drunk, or demented
* threats to the physical, mental, or spiritual health of other members
* repeatedly posting the same text
Well, as you see, I could go on.
Others may choose to expand the list.
Perhaps if we have a comprehensive list, we may be able to prune it
down to one we might agree on.
Or perhaps that final list would be empty.
