Hi Declan, Lucia, Sandra - and everyone else on list
Thank you so much for the reference to the Irish study! The document is quite long for printing and I would like to purchase the report. Do you know if - and maybe how - that would be possible?
I am doing a PhD on midwifery led care - a cohort study with matched control of two freestanding birth centres vs two consultant led units. Midwifery led care is however going through some very rough times in Denmark. Not one have the two freestanding birth centres in my study been shut down (which were the only ones in the country), also several alongside birth centres have recently been closed.
I will be in London from Oct 1st - end of Dec 2010, visiting Jane Sandalls department at Kings College, and am very interested in networking.

Hi Sandra
We have recently completed a trail (the MidU Study) evaluating midwife-led with consultant-led care in the Republic of Ireland.
Like Lucia, a long journey, which included the establishment of the units.
Below is link to report

Subject: MIDWIFERY LED UNITS
Dear All,
I am involved in the setting up of a new MLU situated within an obstetric unit. I am keen to compare guidelines already written for an MLU.
Any advice and direction on setting up a new MLU will be very helpful.
Thank you
Sandra Ebanks. [log in to unmask]
