An online questionnaire will go live on Tuesday 8 June to encourage all
those who wish to contribute to CILIP's Defining our professional future
initiative. This follows a decision of the Project Board at its meeting on
21 May when it heard the outcome of ten interviews and four focus groups
that were run in May by consultants Research by Design. Taken together with
in-depth research findings and input from social media, the outcomes will
help create a questionnaire which will be open to all those in the knowledge
and information community to complete.
The Project Board heard that a wealth of information had emerged from the
interviews, focus groups and social media postings. Key issues included:
. The impact of changing finance and the recession
. Professional structure and culture
. Technological developments
The questionnaire will gather views on these issues, and others, and form
the quantitative element of the project. CILIP Trustees will then consider
the findings to develop a Vision and Roadmap. Find out more about the
Defining our Professional Future timetable.

The complete programme
The "Conversation" is just one project within a larger programme which seeks
to define CILIP's professional future. Four projects make up the programme:
The Conversation
This aims to surface and consider issues which will then be reported to
CILIP Council.
The Vision
CILIP Council will synthesise issues from the conversation and then verify
them with members and the wider stakeholder community.
The Roadmap
CILIP Council will develop a Roadmap to provide specific steps towards
achieving the Vision.
Ownership and implementation
CILIP Council will implement the Roadmap, seeking involvement from
stakeholders.
