If you consider cost calculation of determining relevance of article
prior to purchase, then this could be a cost effective model i.e.
researcher identifies 50 'potential' articles, however only 10 are
relevant enough to justify purchase then potential saving ratio may
justify the rental?

The other comment on DeepDyve itself as a concept is that quite often
especially in evidence based journals, actual physical evidence that the
whole of the paper quoted in an article may have to be produced, not
sure how often this is the case across whole academic publishing
market... So a researcher may have to end up ordering the physical
version of the paper for evidence purposes - so would it be worth using
DeepDyve in the first place?

Subject: [lis-e-resources] DeepDyve
Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone has any comments/opinions on DeepDyve? We are
considering whether we should participate and there are a few areas we'd
like to investigate. See website:
http://www.deepdyve.com/
In particular, does anyone use DeepDyve regularly for research? If so,
how do you find it? Is there demand for more content to be included in
DeepDyve? We're trying to determine what type of users/researchers use
DeepDyve - whether it is more for the general public, or indeed for
academic researchers? We wonder whether we should be reaching out to
other researchers through this manner, or not.
What is the general opinion about us participating if we don't enable
articles to be rented? But simply have content indexed on the site?
Would this be beneficial? Do users want to rent articles? Is it
attractive to be able to read an article online without being able to
print/download it?
Any feedback anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Helen
