Using Web 2.0 to Enhance Research and Collaboration
Part 1 (Collaborative working across sites effectively)

The aim of this one day course is to gain a working knowledge of current Web 2.0 tools, from using wikis to create online collaborative documents to employing blogs for reflective practice, project updates, current awareness services and resource information databases. Gain a working knowledge of professional social networks for collaboration and saving bookmarks online as part of the group resource. The basics of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 will be covered as well as introduction to other useful websites and tools to aid research and collaboration. Students will learn about Web 2.0 tools and how to use them in their everyday work via teaching sessions interspersed with small workshops. Aspects of this course relating to Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 will be covered again on part 2 of our Web 2.0 course held on 7th July. There are no pre-requirements for attending part 2, although it is recommended that both parts are attended to gain a full sense of what Web 2.0 can do for you.
Who will benefit from this course ?
Anyone with an interest in using these new tools in aiding them carry out their day to day roles, whether it be research, librarianship, teaching or administration work. It is desirable that attendees have a moderate level of computer knowledge and essential that they have an email that they can access from anywhere, we recommend Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo account. It is advisable that each attendee create their own Google account ahead of the course.

* Create your own blog for personal reflection, professional development or group resource.
* Learn about social networks and their applications for professional development and collaboration.
* Create your own collection of sharable online resources.
* Understand the principles of Web 2.0 and implications of Web 3.0.
