IASFM - IDP Working Group launches plans for 2010/11
The International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM)
recently released its newsletter. The document includes the Presidents
message, composition of the ExCom, the IASFM 12 Nicosia conference
report, details on the IASFM 13 conference coming up with the CFP, plans
for the IASFM 14 gathering, and the Working Groups.
Academics and practitioners involved in issues on Forced Migration might
wish to consider contacting the coordinators for the Working Groups
should they wish to join, or get involved with the initiatives. The IDP
Working Group especially has grown since its inception and includes a
network of members from a collection of universities, research projects,
think tanks, NGOs, and the UN. The group is coordinated by two
researchers from Sri Lanka and South Africa with members based in
Switzerland, Sri Lanka, India, China, Norway, UK, US, Thailand, Nigeria,
and Columbia, who bring together a rich pool of skills and experiences.
Two ambitious sets of activities are being planned for the year. First,
the formation of two local Forced Migration/IDP networks with
activities, in line with and under the purview of the global IDP Working
Group. This will take place in two pilot countries. Second, a series of
IDP panels covering displacement due to conflict, development,
disasters, and aspects of protection-evaluation, return-reintegration,
policy and global politics are in the process of being formulated for
the IASFM 13 conference.
