Position Title: Researcher, Livable and Inclusive Communities Project
The Canadian Centre on Disability Studies (CCDS) is a national, not-for-profit, disability-focused research and education organization located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. One of CCDS's major research initiatives at this time involves the concept of livable and inclusive communities.
CCDS is seeking a full-time researcher for an approximate 22 month term, from June 15, 2010 to March 31, 2012. The individual must be self-directed, thorough and able to think critically. Salary is commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will possess:
* A graduate university degree in one of the following: liberal arts with a focus on the social sciences (for example urban studies, political studies, sociology, anthropology, disability studies); City Planning; or Social Work (with a focus on social policy). Other combinations may be considered;
* Experience in conducting research (with a focus on participatory action research) and data analysis;
* Knowledge of one or more of the following: social policy, urban planning, applied theoretical models such as the social determinants of health, and current trends in the aging and disability sectors;
* Knowledge of process and project management principles;
* Experience in community and government stakeholder engagement;
* Strong written and verbal skills, and ability to communicate with a variety of audiences;
* The ability to adapt to changing environments and be self-directed when work situations are not well-defined;
* Proficiency in use of MS Office, qualitative and quantitative data analysis software (for example SPSS and NVivo)
The successful candidate is responsible for:
* Liaising with project stakeholders;
* Developing overviews of research sites (includes mapping initiatives and strategies, analyzing and reporting on demographics and key issues);
* Assisting in the development of the Livable and Inclusive Communities model and tools;
* Assisting in the development of workshop content and processes;
* Travelling within Canada to conduct workshops;
* Assisting in the development of a literature review;
* Assisting in the planning and documentation of two interprovincial forums;
* Assisting in analysis of research findings
