Dear colleagues

With the growing interest in community unionism you may be interested in
the following event I am helping to organise...see attached programme's.

Jane

*Invitation to community conference and community film festival*

Organised by Hackney Unites, a broadbased community coalition, the
community conference on *Saturday 5 June*, ‘Celebrate Hackney’ is going
to be fantastic where Hackney’s communities will come together to
discuss and debate issues of concern, to make new friends and to have
some fun. The event has been greeted with such enthusiasm from so many
corners of our communities that we have had to hire additional space
from the school to accommodate it.

The day will begin at 10am, and there will be a series of meetings,
films, performances and discussions. The day will finish at 4.30pm. It’s
free, it’s at Stoke Newington School & Sixth Form: Media Arts & Science
College, Clissold Road, London N16 9EX

There will be *15 workshop sessions running* (five at any one time - see
below). There will be a mini-fill festival, and there will be
performance. We anticipate over 30 stalls, a children’s adventure room,
and some fantastic food (from Yum Yum, Café Z and ‘vegan peasant’).

Held less than a month after the general election, the day will be our
response to the growing threat of the far right and their politics of
hatred and division, showing that in Hackney, our communities can work
together and have fun while doing it.

The day will also provide an opportunity to discuss how we will respond
to anticipated cuts (expected whoever wins the election) in public
services: housing, nurseries, health and education. Finally, it will be
an opportunity to enjoy films made on our estates by young and old about
their lives and their concerns.

To ensure that people in Hackney know of this fantastic event, we have
produced an 8 page tabloid programme (thanks to HOPE not hate for their
collaboration on this). We have had 50,000 of these printed and
distributed these to half of the households in the borough.

You can help make this great day a success in several ways.

Sign up for the event: the event will be free, we want to know how may
people to expect.

If you are on facebook, then please sign up the event at
<http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=120552934622314>http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=120552934622314
(and then invite your friends to attend so that people get to hear of
the day).

If you have a webpage or blog could you put a link on it to our website:

We will also need volunteers on the day, to help with stewarding and
other tasks. If you want to help, please let us know.

Finally, you could simply forward this email onto friends who might be
interested

Thank you
Jane Holgate - chair of Hackney Unites
