Apologies for cross-posting but hopefully of interest to some.
This job was recently readvertised as we were unable to appoint from the initial set of candidates. It's a Grade 7 post. Brief details below:
The Post
The post, which is offered on a full-time basis for a fixed-term of 18 months, will provide support for the new distance learning Masters in Surgery in Oncoplastic Surgery. The post-holder will support the teaching staff in the conversion of material to on-line format and will provide technical support to staff and students as needed.
The Masters in Surgery in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery is the result of collaboration between the University, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Association of Breast Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. It is aimed at senior trainees in surgery who are intending to sub-specialise in Breast Surgery. Because the trainees are employed in hospitals throughout the UK the course has to be delivered largely on-line. The programme has been approved by the University Learning and Teaching Office and by the Royal College of Surgeons. The curriculum content is currently being written with a view to recruiting the first students in September 2010. It is expected that if this course is successful other similar courses will be developed.
Job Description
The individual will:
1) Provide advice and guidance to the Masters in Surgery curriculum development team regarding the format and delivery of the course modules and assessment.
2) Working in liaison with colleagues from ISD ensure the ongoing provision, development and application-level administration of a robust and smooth-running web-based learning environment.
3) Ensure excellent user support for students and staff on the Masters in Surgery programme.
4) Proactively promote the development of other technology based approaches to teaching in FOH in general and MED in particular.
5) Assist the academic staff in developing other distance learning Masters programmes.
6) Participate in the FOH e-learning committee.
7) Keep up-to-date via conferences/reading/mail lists/national and international contacts.
8) Take an active role in the Education in Health Research Institute in developing and delivering research projects (including attracting external funding) and in disseminating results through publication.
