I have two work experience opportunities on offer for students/ graduates with some knowledge of human-computer interaction, starting in the late summer or early autumn 2010.
The timing is flexible - you can work on the project for several weeks part-time, or for a few weeks full-time, and you can start at a date to suit you. There is no payment (sorry!) but reasonable expenses can be covered. You can work from home if you wish.
The work is part of a new development project, called Ergonomics/UCD for Schools, in which I am leading a team from UCL Interaction Centre and Brunel and Coventry Universities, in partnership with some schools, to introduce User Centred Design (UCD) into the schools Design and Technology syllabus.
The projects you would be involved with are these:
1. Developing a requirements spec for a redesign of the support website Ergonomics4Schools, to expand it to include UCD. This project includes an online survey of Design and Technology teachers and 6th form school students, to gather current user requirements for the site review, and to gather user views on the future site expansion.
2. Developing UCD school syllabus material for use in Design and Technology teaching. This project involves gathering teaching material from your HCI course and from textbooks, publications about HCI education, etc, and selecting a sub-set that could be adapted for teaching young people in D and T practical classes. It could also involve creating ideas for educational games.
It is possible for the two projects to amalgamate if the work experience students wish to work together as a team on both projects.
If you are at all interested in applying for these opportunities, please let me know. I need to hear from you by the end of June please, to be sure of planning details for the project teams.
