Dear all,

Since this is a new email list, I figured I'd get discussion started (and help us all get an idea of how this list works) with a self-introduction. My name is Andrew Hinderliter, and I am a Ph.D. student in linguistics and the University of Illinois. After finding the asexual community about two and a half years ago (and having identified as asexual since that time), I became very interested in related academic work, and in generally developing thinking about asexuality. This first led to my blog, http://asexystuff.blogspot.com, and later I made a website, http://www.asexualexplorations.net/home with the aim of promoting the academic study of asexuality.

In AVEN's outreach to the DSM-5 Sexual Dysfunctions Subworkgroup, I was one of the main people in doing background research and writing our final report. Recently, I have become increasingly interested in the diagnostic status of what are now called the paraphilias as well. While issues pertaining to (a)sexuality are not my primary research interest, I do find these matters fascinating. In terms of articles on sexuality, I have a letter to the editor in Archives of Sexual Behavior called "Methodological Issues for Studying Asexuality." I have a peer-reviewed article about the paraphilias in DSM-5 currently in press, a second article currently undergoing peer-review, and a third that has been submitted as a letter to the editor. I look forward to getting to discuss research on asexuality with you all.

Sincerely,
Andrew Hinderliter
