Hello all
Thanks for all your comments. I have had responses from a mix of
Universities and local authority record offices or local study centres
and most focus on trying to collect manifestos and election leaflets.
Quite a few of you try and get material from local constituency parties
but with variable luck. There are also some who appeal for donations
from readers and in the local press, others get staff to bring in what
they receive and some contact PPCs directly again with varying success.
The main reason given for collecting was social significance
particularly involving individual countries of the UK and devolved
governments. A couple of comments mentioned that it is material over
20years old that gets the most use and the two main user groups seem to
be school groups and activists.
It would appear that achieving complete sets from any one constituency
in any one election is unlikely but its nice to hear what's happening
elsewhere.
Thanks for all the emails on this. Vote early, vote often ;)
