Hi all,
The Archives Hub team have recently supplied both Axiell CALM and Adlib with specifications for
exporting descriptions as EAD. This will allow the descriptions to be easily incorporated into both
the Archives Hub and AIM25. Both suppliers have indicated that they are happy to work with us on this.
Clearly these software suppliers have various competing priorities in terms of development work, so
we would like to take this opportunity to ask you to make it known to your supplier if this
functionality is important to you. That way, we can demonstrate the importance of this kind of data
exchange initiative.
By having an export like this, you will be able to create Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
records. The benefits of this are:
- they can be imported into the Archives Hub and AIM25
- you can keep them as a back up for your finding aids
- there is the potential to use them for other systems and future purposes, as they are in XML, an
international standard
If you are interested in contributing to the Archives Hub through this option, but do not yet
contribute, please do get in touch with us. Our remit is to support UK research and our core users
are UK academic researchers. We welcome descriptions from UK higher and further education
institutions, research bodies, learned societies and specialist repositories. You may also have
business archives that you believe would be useful for academic research.
If you are interested in contributing to AIM25, please contact Geoff Browell,

Please contact Bethan Ruddock, our Content Development Officer, if you would like any further
