Hi Pam
I agree that there needs to be more research in this area, particularly
from the point of view of the end user, i.e. the person who will be sitting
in the chair. I did come across this interesting research that compares
evac chairs to some other options:

Unfortunately, the authors didn't really look at the user's perception of
these devices in this study.

Thanks Karen and Shane, Every time I go somewhere with an evac chair the
people do not understand why I say they are not much use - they have been
told they are ideal! There seems to be a lack of real life research.
