I would agree.
As a gamer I thought there was something pretty occult going on with D&D
using the 4-sided 6-sided 8-sided 12-sided and 20-sided dice which are the
platonic solids of sacred geometry - the building blocks of reality/universe
- which we rolled to create and alter our fantasy worlds.
Those bags of dice that us gaming geeks carried around everywhere as kids
both identified us and functioned like quasi-religious implements - we
opened doorways to other worlds (and ate a lot of pizza):

I think the game most similar though to the individual's pursuit of occult
knowledge is CoC - how many sanity points have you given up?
