SPOTLIGHT: NO 'BOUNCE'
The White House is stepping up efforts to promote the new health reform
law, after public opinion of the legislation did not "bounce" higher
after passage. Many observers consider the promotional effort crucial
tin helping vulnerable Democrats secure re-election in the November
midterms. In the weeks following passage of the overhaul, proponents of
the new law predicted that U.S. residents would view the legislation
more favorably once they recognized some of its early benefits. However,
"public perception of the bill has hardly budged," with recent polls
indicating that a slight majority of U.S. residents oppose the law.
