Dear Colleagues,
As part of a prestigious £48 million building project at the University of Exeter, refurbishment of the Main Library on Streatham Campus will begin in July 2010.
This £5.8 million library refurbishment will take place floor by floor between July 2010 and Dec 2011.
The project will increase the capacity of the Main Library, providing much-needed storage space for print collections well into the 21st Century and a wide range of new learning and study environments to suit the changing need of students. On conclusion of the project, we will be providing users with 120 Group Study spaces (a 400% increase), 90 Silent study spaces (a 280% increase) and 105 PCs (a 175% increase). The Main Library will remain open throughout the project with additional alternative places to study at the library's recently refurbished Research Commons and St Luke's Campus Library. We hope to offer continued access to all stock and services throughout this project although users may occasionally encounter some short-term disruption.
The library will be an integral part of the Forum which will offer over 1200 seats and full wifi access, together with extra public PC provision outside the library space. Flexible use of space will provide the library with up to a further 180 seats on a seasonal basis when required. The Forum will also house a student services centre, technology rich learning labs, a 400 seat auditorium, social 'street', a landscaped piazza and retail and catering, including a rooftop cafe.
