Colleagues
I recently had an experience at Sainsburys that made me wonder how widespread their negative treatment of disabled customers is; any views appreciated.
I am unable to use the self service checkouts and asked my 25 year old son to put the items through (including alcohol). He does not carry ID through fear of losing it which resultred in a member of staff deciding we could not have the alcohol and that she must return it to the shelf, despite being asked to leave it and someone else could put it through.
My concern is that my disabled son was acting effectively as a carer for me (in my 50s) but the store refused to sell me a product because my carer could not prove he was over 18 (being 25 and looking it).
Does anyone have a (possibly polite) remedy apart from leaving the rest of the items behind and shopping elsewhere (which is what I did and wil continue to do?
Have fun (or not as the mood takes ....)
Ed
