We had lots of our membership records put on microfiche in the past however this was before the digital option existed. We still often have material microfilmed and then digital copies made from the film or fiche. It doesn't seem to cost an awful lot more from what I remember and if anything happens to your digital copy another copy can be created from the film rather than the originals.
We use D A Archive solutions (previously D A microfilming). They can microfilm and scan or just scan.

Please note as we have only used D A I cannot say if they are the cheapest or best but we have never had a problem with them.

Subject: Digitisation v microfilming
Hello All
This subject has probably been posted many times before but I'm looking into getting a large number (c.8 x four drawer filing cabinets full) of membership forms either digitised or microfilmed. I'm leaning towards microfilming as an option as, although it is more old fashioned, it is a tried and tested format which has a longer preservation lifespan. Has anyone else been faced with a similar quandary?
Also could anyone recommend any digitisation or microfilming companies they've used in the past?
Regards
Caroline Lam
