Dear all,
Have just checked on Worldcat (which may be out of date, of course) and see that copies are few and far between in UK academic libraries. So there might be scope for some of us to suggest that our institutional libraries purchase a copy of this very informative volume. I know that many libraries are strapped for cash at the moment, but I think that we can justifiably argue that it will be a great resource for many years to come.
Just an idea, as I for one won't be buying a second copy for myself !
Jo

Dear colleagues,
I am forwarding this on behalf of Robbie Davis-Floyd in support of her important project on birth models that work.

Subject: Birth on the Cutting Edge: Birth Models That Work Volume 2, Please forward!
Dear Colleagues,

Birth Models That Work came out in April 2009. It received an extremely positive review in Birth: Issues in Perinatal Care. To date it has sold 1000 copies. It's an excellent book that we are very proud of--it takes a positive approach, describing optimal birth models from all over the world. And the Conclusion provides the most up-to-date description of the midwifery model of care and its multiple benefits.

Two of the co-editors of Birth Models That Work, Betty-Anne Daviss and Robbie Davis-Floyd, are working on a follow-up volume, to be entitled Birth on the Cutting Edge. We wish to publish this second volume with the same publisher, the University of California Press. The Press has been very clear that they will accept our proposal for Volume 2 only if we can increase sales of Volume 1 by at least 600 within the next few months.
Volume 2, Birth on the Cutting Edge, will describe birth models that work under trying circumstances, such as extreme poverty, and war and disaster zones. We believe this proposed volume will make a major contribution to the understanding of how it is possible to achieve optimal birth models, given the will and understanding, no matter what!
We simply ask you all to support us in this endeavor by purchasing a copy of Birth Models That Work, as soon as possible, to raise our sales levels enough to be able to get a contract for Volume 2. If 600 of you will buy one copy each, we can reach our goal! (Alternatively, bring one of us as a speaker at your next event, to speak on the topic of “Birth Models That Work,” and allow us to sell the book right after the talk, which is extremely positive and inspirational and always ensures sales.)

Please click on this link and buy a copy now! http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/10482.php and forward this message far and wide!

Our deepest thanks for your support,
Robbie Davis-Floyd and Betty-Anne Daviss
