This year the two Easters coincide, and there is a suggestion that we go
for a walk in the woods to enjoy the shiny colours and full-bodied juices
of awakening spring, and admire the freshness of Primula Elatior, more
commonly known as "oxlips". You may also see some active badger setts and
dung pits, if you are lucky!!
*** OXLIP (EASTER) WALK + PICNIC ***
WHEN: Saturday, 10th April, 12 noon sharp.
WHERE: Hayley Wood (South of Huntingdon, East of St. Neots)
<http://www.wildlifebcnp.org/reserves/reserve1.php?reserveid=51>
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T BE LATE -
you won't be able to find the group in the middle of the wood, and it would
be so much more fun to go altogether.
DIRECTIONS: Road B1046 between Longstowe and Great Gransden;
entrance is halfway between the two villages,
next to a VERY LARGE BLACK WATER TOWER.
PARKING: on either side of the road, on the verges.
*** PLEASE BRING A PICNIC TO SHARE ***
(there will be a picnic in the middle of the wood; but not a barbecue)
Children welcome; dogs only on a lead.
Beware: there are no loos; the ground is WET AND MUDDY (walking boots or
wellies are recommended).
ABOUT OXLIPS: In the British Isles, oxlips are only found in East Anglia,
or so I am told. Apparently, they grow in abundance in the Altai Mountains
and on the Kola Peninsula in Russia (though I can't find the Russian name!)
CONTACTS:
For more info, please contact Peter Pilbeam, the Walk Leader:

*** INFO FOR IMMIGRANTS ***
Immigrants with a Work Permit who came to the UK before April 2006 were
promised ILR after 4 years and citizenship after 5. With the change in
immigration rules both periods were increased. HSMP holders fought and in
April 2009 won the case for the rules valid at the time of entry to apply
to them. WP, WP+HSMP and Ancestry visa holders are now campaigning to get
the same treatment. The case is taken forward by a non-for-profit
organisation Immigrant Welfare. All information is collected, assessed by a
very experienced barrister who believes there are very good arguments to
support the case and is ready to launch the case in the next 2 weeks. In
the case of a positive decision, the rules valid at entry would apply
retroactively: above 3 categories can apply for ILR in 4 years; those
already on ILR may apply for Citizenship straight away; those not on ILR
may apply directly for Citizenship after 5 years as their ILRs would be
backdated.
Immigrant Welfare is looking for more members and support from the wider
community;
if you are affected, more info is available on
<http://www.immigrantwelfare.co.uk/>
