INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND ARCHIVES SERVICE
The service includes both a successful and dynamic Information Management Service team who lead on Freedom of Information and Data Protection for the authority, and run a busy corporate Records Centre, as well as Gloucestershire Archives, which has a national reputation as a centre of excellence in local authority archival practice and was recently ranked as one of the top archive services in the country by the National Archives. We have provided a trainee archivist placement for over ten years and our trainees have an excellent success rate of gaining places on an accredited professional training course. We are now recruiting for 2010/11 and are able to offer two trainee archivist posts:

PLEASE NOTE: THESE POSTS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WISHING TO QUALIFY BY LONG DISTANCE LEARNING DUE TO THE DURATION OF THE CONTRACT
The posts are designed for graduates wishing to obtain pre-qualification experience before undertaking an accredited course of study for a Diploma or MA in Archives Administration or Records Management
You will spend six months based with the Information Management Service where you will assist with the running of the record centre, and gain an understanding of information management and FOI/DP issues. You will also spend six months based with the Collections Management team where you will help to accession, catalogue, index and package a wide variety of archives, using CALM 2000 software. You will be involved regularly in our busy searchroom where your role will include helping to produce documents for researchers, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is essential. As part of a planned training programme, you will be given opportunities to gain experience in all other aspects of the Service, including collections care and learning & outreach.
The successful candidate will hold an honours degree and must show a genuine commitment to a career in archives and information management. Good keyboard skills, people skills, computer literacy and team-working are all essential to the post.
