PhD Student Positions at Department of Astronomy, Stockholm University
The department of astronomy at Stockholm University announces the
availability of two fully funded, 4-year PhD student positions.
One position will be in the field of galaxies and cosmology. This
research group is active in observational studies and numerical
simulations of galaxies in the near and distant Universe.
We have a preference for a candidate to work with Prof. G. Mellema
on the effects of the first stars and galaxies on the intergalactic
medium, and how these can be observed with the new LOFAR radiotelescope.
The other position will be in the field of supernovae, gamma-ray bursts
and high-energy astrophysics. The supernova group is active in both
observational and theoretical studies of different kinds of
supernovae, their relation to gamma-ray bursts, supernova remnants and
their use for cosmology.
Applications should include
- CV
- List of grades
- Statement of research experience
- Names and contact details of at least two references.
The positions are open to students of all nationalities who at the start
of the position have the equivalent of a Masters degree in astronomy or
physics. The starting date for the position is flexible from immediate to
December 2010.
