Firstly, I doubt your 'life depends' on an OH placement.
I would advise you sign on with an agency, get some experience then the door should open to opportunities to develop further. Occupational Health does not start & stop with a piece of paper it is far more than that. I hope you get your placement but you need to be thinking a bit more about what else is available that will give you experience and help you achieve your goal.
