We had thought about the 'Truck Act' but was Parys Mountain fair in this
respect?

What you have is strictly a token not a coin. In the late 18th century
there was a shortage of small change and a number of industrialists minted
tokens, which circulated like coins, but usually (I think) mainly in the
area of the works. I think that many such tokens were minted by Matthew
Boulton in Birmingham. Since the Parys Mine Company were producing copper,
circulating copper tokens was natural, but the ironmaster John Wilkinson
(for example) also did so.

Thanks John and Ian
We didn't know how common they were, but it seems that they were so common
that they could end up anywhere. The example that we have is not good
quality and was found burried.

Ian

These halfpennies (and pennies) were produced in large quantities near the
end of the 18th century by the owners of Parys Mine, Angelsey, as tokens
for paying their workers.
Many, many different varieties are known, and range in value on today's
market from a few pounds to several hundred pounds.
I have a reasonable collection of them.
John.
