Dear colleagues,
Please find below two separate announcements for open positions
in our research teams
*****
The interdisciplinary aivoAALTO project of the Aalto University (Helsinki
and Espoo, Finland) is now looking for
- one postdoctoral scientist, and
- one senior scientist.
aivoAALTO focuses on systems-level human brain imaging in the context of
social interaction in natural settings, economic decision making and
cinema viewing.
http://www.aalto.fi/en/research/multidisciplinary/aivoaalto/
The postdoctoral scientist is expected to have experience in fMRI or
related fields, and is supposed to participate in aivoAALTO projects
requiring collaboration between scientists of different backgrounds.
The senior scientist is expected to take an active role and leadership in
research that should fit to the main goals of aivoAALTO (especially brain
imaging in naturalistic settings). The ideal candidate will have an
extensive experience in fMRI or related fields, evident in international
peer-reviewed publications, and experience of supervising younger
researchers.
For experienced scientists with open mind, smooth team playing skills, and
enthusiastic attitude we offer state-of-the art imaging facilities (e.g.
3-T fMRI, whole-scalp MEG) within a very multidisciplinary and stimulating
research community. Working language is English.
Both positions will be filled from Summer 2010 for two years. A successive
senior scientist can have prolongation for the position.
For further details, please contact aivoAALTO Coordinator Docent Elina
Pihko [log in to unmask] +358 50 344 2713 or Project leader Prof. Riitta
Hari [log in to unmask] +358 9 470 22959.
Applicants should submit, latest on May 7th, 2010, a cover letter
describing current research interests and future research goals related to
the topic of aivoAALTO, a complete CV with publication record (top 10
publications indicated), and the names of potential references. All
information should be emailed to aivoAALTO coordinator Elina Pihko
[log in to unmask], preferably in a single file, with the file(s) named
according to the applicant.

*** Two postdoctoral positions
in the project "Computational analysis of complex brain imaging data"
in Helsinki, Finland. This is a joint project with Aapo Hyvarinen
(Univ of Helsinki) and Riitta Hari (Aalto University, formerly called
Helsinki Univ of Technology).
The postdoctoral training consists of developing new models, methods,
and paradigms for brain imaging experiments using MEG and EEG. Almost
all brain imaging data are currently analyzed by simple methods which
constrain the experiments to simple laboratory situations. We develop
new methods with which we can analyze brain activity in situations closer to
everyday-life. An important example is the setting of two-person
neuroscience, in which two subjects are in social interaction with
each other, while both of their brains are scanned. Another example is
when the subject is in resting state and we only observe the internal
dynamics of the brain.
One of the post-doc position has a more computational-mathematical
orientation and is concentrated on development of new data analysis
methods for MEG and EEG. It is located in Hyvarinen's group at the
University of Helsinki, which is one of the world's leading groups in
unsupervised machine learning and its applications in
neuroscience. The other position combines experimental work with
methods development and is in Hari's group at the Brain Research Unit
of the Aalto University (Helsinki University of Technology), world-widely known for its development work of MEG.
The selected candidates will receive top-class post-doctoral
training in a highly multidisciplinary and paradigm-shifting project.
Applications from candidates with a PhD degree in computer science,
neuroscience, statistics, psychology, signal processing, or similar,
are welcome. Candidates with experience in neuroscience are preferred
but exceptionally strong candidates with a strong future commitment to
neuroscience are also eligible. Candidates who are likely to obtain a
PhD degree in the next few months are also eligible. The starting date
and the duration are flexible.
Please send your application to: [log in to unmask]
Attach at least: CV, publication list, short statement
of research interests, and names and email addresses of 2-3 people
willing to give their opinion on your competence.
Review of applications has already started but will continue until the
positions are filled.
