The Department of Music at the University of Aberdeen seeks to appoint a postgraduate organ scholar to assist in the direction of Chapel Choir and in playing the organ for chapel services and ceremonial occasions, and to make a contribution to the teaching and/or performing activities of the department.
The successful candidate will study for a postgraduate research degree during their tenure. Students initially register for an MPhil and, on making satisfactory progress, transfer to the PhD programme. The proposed research should lie within the research expertise of the department, and a research interest in early music, particularly early keyboard music, may be an advantage.
Applicants will be expected to have obtained a First Class or 2:1 degree in Music before taking up the scholarship. The scholarship is a fixed term appointment for three years, and includes maintenance at £13,290 p.a. plus fees at UK/EU rate.
The organ scholar may be required to offer up to 140 hours per annum of organ playing, conducting/directing and/or teaching for the department. The exact requirements will depend on the strengths of the successful candidate, and may vary according to the needs of the department at any one time.
