It sounds to me, Leslie, as if a Document Management System (DMS) is
what you're after, though arguably that could count as a repository.
There are shedloads of the things around, proprietary and Open Source,
but a good start is the Wikipedia page on DMSs
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Document_management_system). I've not
found any useful system comparison sites/pages so when I investigated
this for our small workgroup recently I put together an informal spec
and brief report on systems I found, which I'll email you offlist as I
never like sending attachments to discussion lists.
