italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear colleagues,
could I please draw your attention to this interesting opportunity for
students with a specific interest in Comparative Literature:
**********************************************************
SYNAPSIS: EUROPEAN SUMMER SCHOOL IN COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
Certosa di Pontignano, Siena, Italy, 23-30 September 2010
***********************************************************
"Synapsis" is an international summer school hosted by the Universities of
Bologna and Siena, which takes place in a beautiful Sixteenth Century
Convent in the Tuscan countryside, just outside Siena. All students and
lecturers are hosted in this conference centre.
Students attend plenary lectures in English in the mornings and attend
small-group seminars in the afternoons. Seminars are taught in English,
Italian, Spanish, French and German, and bring together academic
specialists and creative artists. The school also runs a theatre workshop,
which provides participants with the opportunity to prepare a staged
reading of literary works. The atmosphere is intimate, friendly and
vibrant. In the aftermath of the summer school, students are strongly
encouraged to submit an essay for publication in the school's proceedings:
"Quaderni di Synapsis".
This year's topic will be "Utopia". There will be lectures and seminars by
distinguished scholars from Italy, Britain, France, Switzerland, the US,
Canada, and Spain, including Gillian Beer (Cambridge), Maria di Battista
(Princeton), Vita Fortunati (Bologna), Patrizia Lombardo (Geneva) and
Matthew Beaumont (UCL). For a full programme and further details please
see: www.unisi.it/synapsis
The full cost for the summer school ranges from 510 Euros (double room) to
610 Euros (single room) and includes travel from Siena station, full board
and accomodation. Applications should be submitted via e-mail by Saturday,
15th May 2010.
If you are interested in applying and if you would like more information
about the school, please contact the conference organizers direcly or
write to me at [log in to unmask]
With kind regards,
Florian Mussgnug
