On 28 April (at 5pm) a new book entitled "Deterritorialized Youth
Sahrawi and Afghan Refugees at the Margins of the Middle East" will be
launched. This book, published by Berghahn Books and edited by Dr Dawn
Chatty, will be presented after the first seminar in the series of the
RSC Wednesday Seminars of Trinity Term.
This seminar will present an overview of the main findings of the study
on refugee youth in both Sahrawi camps in Algeria, and self settled
Afghan refugees in Tehran and Meshed. Dr Dawn Chatty (Refugee Studies
Centre) will give a broad overview, followed by Dr Elena
Fiddian-Qasmiyeh (Refugee Studies Centre) talking about her experiences
in Algeria, Spain and Cuba with Sahrawi refugees. Sarah Kamal (London
School of Economics) will discuss her experiences with Afghan refugee
youth in Tehran, Meshed and Kabul. The seminar will examine the case of
the Sahrawi refugee community which is closely linked with the United
Nations High Commission for Refugees and a host of other UN agencies,
and the case of Afghan refugees in Iran suffering from the near total
lack of humanitarian aid.
The seminar and book launch will be followed by a drinks reception. All
welcome.
