Simon Armitage on BBC 2's review prog on Friday actually said
something I agree with. They were discussing all these new films with
classical Greek and Roman backgrounds etc and Simon (I'll call him
Simon now he's said something I agree with) said that he was fed up
with all this referencing in films to other films etc, and why
couldn't people try to just be a bit original again. Have to agree.
Have to. I too am tired of hearing people praise some film or other
because of its references to some other film - at times it seems to be
the only other criteria for excellence, apart from being entertaining.
It's about time somebody told those directors that there are other
things you can do with postmodernism.
