This event is aimed at those teaching Islamic Studies in UK higher education, and will be of interest to academics from a wide range of perspectives and disciplinary backgrounds. The event will bring participants together to discuss and share practice in teaching Islamic Studies in UK Higher Education today.

Professor Robert Gleave
Professor Ron Geaves
The event will also include workshop sessions facilitated by Islamic Studies specialists. These workshops will allow participants to discuss issues at a practical level. The first workshop session will be focused on discipline-specific questions in teaching Islamic Studies, while the second workshop session will raise cross-disciplinary issues. Key themes will include:
* Teaching Islamic Studies from specific disciplinary perspectives (including Religious Studies; Languages and Area Studies; History; Sociology, Anthropology and Politics; Law; Business and Finance)
* Teaching introductory courses
* Resource sharing and curriculum development
* Student recruitment and employability
* Teaching in relation to political issues and current events
As it will be a residential event, there will be many opportunities for informal networking and discussion.
