You may remember that I posted a message to the BISA e-mail discussion list in February asking for nominations for the post of BISA Convenor. I am pleased to say that we received one nomination from Simon Rooks. Simon trained as a Librarian, and joined the BBC Radio Reference Library in 1989. Moving to the Sound Archive in 1990, he worked on the enquiry desk, responding to requests from both BBC programmes and external clients. He became Sound Archivist in 1999 and developed and implemented a major re-organisation of the 50 year-old approach to selection and cataloguing. Like all the BBC's five Archivists, he is now designated Multi Media, applying archival management principles across all collections. Radio, and more broadly sound remains closest to his heart. He attends IASA conferences, was sometime Secretary of the Broadcast Archives Section and now he's looking forward to serving BISA.
Because Simon is the only candidate, there is no need for us to have a formal vote. However, we will confirm Simon as Will Prentice's successor at BISA's Annual General Meeting in York next month. Details of the AGM will follow.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Draper
BISA Secretary
