Subject: Monday at 5pm seminar by Prof. Tiziana Lippiello on Chinese ethics and the notion of the golden rule
Dear All,
We would like to invite you to the first seminar in the East Asian Studies
departmental (and ASC) seminar series of this term:
"Chinese ethics and the notion of the golden rule"
Tiziana Lippiello
Professor of Classical Chinese, Ca' Foscari University, Venice
Monday, 26 April 2010, 5.00p.m, Rooms 8 and 9
Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
In Chinese literature the locus classicus of what the West has been called
"the golden rule" is a passage from the Lunyu (Analects) in which Zigong,
one of Confucius' favourite disciples, asks his Master about a principle
that can guide man's behaviour. Starting from this anecdote, Professor
Lippiello shall illustrate the confucian notion of the golden rule and its
impact on Chinese thought.
All are welcome!
Best,
Adam
