Dear Colleagues,
While humanitarian response in Haiti has continued with a necessary
focus on life saving assistance, it is also important for aid efforts to
prioritize the rebuilding of people’s economic lives and livelihoods.
The Women’s Refugee Commission is pleased to share the guidance
document, Livelihoods and the Humanitarian Response in Haiti: Key
Messages and Guidance for Action
(http://womensrefugeecommission.org/images/stories/Livelihoods_Haiti_earthquake_response_April_2010_for_webFINAL.pdf).
It highlights general action and specific recommendations for
humanitarian assistance practitioners engaged in livelihood programs;
such programs include cash-for-work programming, agrarian interventions
and financial support.
This document is based on the Women’s Refugee Commission’s Building
Livelihoods: A Field Manual for Practitioners in Humanitarian Settings,
the first-ever comprehensive guide to help field-based programmers and
practitioners design and implement more effective economic interventions
for displaced people.
As we continue to unite in our efforts to assist Haiti, we hope that our
guidance will prove to be indispensable to your work and that you will
share it broadly within your networks.
