Senior Medical Statistician
Grade 8: Salary £36,715 - £43,840 with a discretionary range to £47,905 p.a.
A highly motivated and innovative Senior Medical Statistician, with a proven track record in research and clinical trials, is being sought to help expand the statistical and clinical trial activity of the University of Oxford Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU). The DTU is the largest Academic Research Organisation (ARO) worldwide that specialises in performing mega trials in the fields of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and forms an integral part of the RAE 4* rated University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Medicine. The Unit, together with its internationally recognised Biostatistics Group designs, runs and analyses large-scale multinational interventional outcome trials, performs disease-specific genetic and biomarker studies and undertakes challenging statistical methodological research.
The post holder will work on at least one mega-trial as well as working on smaller scale studies and projects. They will manage and help train junior statisticians and will be encouraged to develop and publish their own research programmes and report results at international meetings. In addition to working with a multidisciplinary team of in-house experts, they will be expected to liaise with other senior statisticians on a global basis as part of the Unit’s numerous academic and pharmaceutical collaborations. Applicants should have an MSc or above in Statistics or a related subject with experience in medical statistics and/or epidemiology and expertise in advanced survival analysis, multivariate modelling and exploratory data analysis techniques. Familiarity with SAS or STATA is essential for these positions. Experience with R would be an asset.
The position is funded for three years in the first instance with a high probability of extension, contingent upon continued research funding. Salary is dependent on previous experience and benefits include 38 days holiday (including public holidays) and a contributory pension scheme.
