Have just been looking through "fine art photography"
There's a lot of digital black and white which could be colour and
colour which looks like an imitation of painting but is not what I would
call painterly.
Digital monochrome reduces colour to relations of grey. Black and white
film (silver gelatin) instead preserves colour as absolute. B&W film and
paper are also very plastic beyond digital so not every object can make
a b&w photo.
