Hello Gary,
The Scottish Qualifications Authority have done some work on using wikis and blogs for learning and assessment, there's a presentation about it from an event we held a couple of years ago at http://wiki.cetis.ac.uk/Assessment_and_EC_SIGs_meeting_Feb_2008#Assessment.2C_Wikis_and_Blogs I'm sure Linn would be happy to discuss it further with you if it's relevant to what you're looking for.
Best wishes,
Rowin

Hi Mike
Thanks for your response and the link, on reflection I think I was being
rather vague when I refer to "learning." I was focusing on how learning
was being assessed by the teacher and whether the teacher had already
developed assessment criteria for the wiki or blog based activity. For
example, has the student refered to prior learning and linked this to
discussions taking place within the wiki or blog.
Talking of grips, we use a commercial system that beaks up wiki's and
blogs when you try to export them and so are no use to the student if
they want to import their wiki or blog into another system such as an
e-portfolio.

Hi Gary,
Just out of the voluntary workshop with three small groups of nursing
students editing wiki...
What kind of 'learning' did you have in mind? Learning content, learning
to learn, digital literacy? Some of these things are closely related to
participation and engagement... Also, 'effectiveness'? I could add some
gripes about how poor the wiki tool we are using is, but you might as
well
ask whether a classroom is 'effective'. I think so much depends on the
design of the learning activity... I did a presentation last year about
my
own use of wikis - there was a small amount of evaluative data
(engagement
issue ;-) see -

Best wishes,
Mike

[VLES] Impact of Wikis and Blogs on Learning
Hi ALL
I am undertaking some research into the effectiveness of wiki and blogs,
I
know this post focuses on VLE's, however, most VLE's now incorporate
wiki
and blog modules.
Has anyone investigated the impact of using wiki's and blogs from a
learning
perspective when used to support student independent learning
activities?
I have asked Colleagues within my organisation and the response to the
question usually focuses on changes to student behaviour, for example,
increased participation, student engagement, rather then the learning
that
has taken place.
I would really appreciate your views and experiences in relation to
using
wikis
and blogs and the impact they have on your students from a learning
perspective.
Kind Regards
