History and Historiography working group - Call for Papers

Cardiff September 9th - 11th 2010

 Connections and Disconnections.

Having focussed chiefly on evidence and archives in our sessions so far,
we hope this year's theme of Connections and Disconnections' will offer
a way in to discuss what we actually make of the materials we gather and
generate.

We hope sessions may cover issues such as (but not confined to):

*        Periodicity and its transgression;

* Interdisciplinarity - the construction of theatre histories of
place, of race, of gender, of identity, even of class;

* Performance - or drama-oriented questions of historical

ownership, ontology and epistemology;

* New ways in which these particular kinds of history can be

written; how our stories are told.

Expresssions of interest should be sent to the conveners Gilli
Bush-Bailey ([log in to unmask]) and Kate Dorney
([log in to unmask]) in the form of abstracts (max 250 words) by 30
April 2010.

Working Group Practice

After feedback from the meeting last year, we have decided to suggest a
variation in our practice for the next meeting.

As usual, papers will be circulated in advance to facilitate discussion,
but rather than the writer then re-introducing or summarizing his or her
paper in the session itself, we will adopt a different method.

When we have received and selected the papers, we will group them
thematically (or according to some other principle which makes itself
evident as we read) into panels for the workshop sessions. We will
invite a member of the group not offering a paper to review each
collection, to consult with the authors, and then to offer on the day a
brief overview of the common themes and questions from their panel. The
panel chair will offer an appropriate question or provocation to each
writer. This exchange will act as the introduction to each session,
which will then, we hope, develop as an open discussion with all the
group.

In order to facilitate this, we will be setting the deadline for
complete papers slightly earlier than usual: 30th July 2010

For any further questions or enquiries about joining the History and
Historiography working group, please contact the conveners:

Gilli Bush-Bailey or Kate Dorney.
