Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Dr.PH.) in
Public Health, Sociology, Political Science, Sport Science or a related
field. Applicants should have a record of extramural funding or show
evidence of ability to secure research funding and to publish research
findings. Preferred qualifications include practical experience in a public
health setting and familiarity with the topics of physical activity, public
health, and health promotion. Excellent command of English (native speaker
or long-time residence in an English-speaking country) is essential. German
language skills are not required.
Job Description: The Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU)
is recruiting one Social Science/Public Health research associate to join
the Institute of Sport Science and Sport (ISS). The ISS administers an
expanding International Master Program in "Physical Activity and Health".
Its faculty members are active in policy-oriented public health research.
Research strengths of the ISS faculty include physical activity and aging,
physical activity policies, and infrastructures related to physical
activity. The Division of Physical Activity and Public Health is currently
coordinating two large-scale international research projects in the areas of
policy capacity building for physical activity and good practice in
leisure-time related infrastructures for physical activity. Both projects
are funded by the European Union. The ISS is embarking on a vital period of
growth with plans to increase student enrollment and expand international
research activities. The Division of Physical Activity and Public Health
plans to put into operation a "Center for International Studies" in the near
future.
The successful applicant will play an active role in enhancing the
international research contacts of the Division of Physical Activity and
Public Health, conducting and publishing social science/public health
research, and obtaining external funding for international research
projects. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate
with ISS faculty and staff members who have considerable expertise in
coordinating international research endeavors, utilizing a broad range of
quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Preferably, the position will start on or before 1 May 2010. Review of
applications will begin February 8. Annual compensation will be 45.000 to
50.000 EUR. Salary will be commensurate with age and marital status.
