The Sociology Division at Glasgow Caledonian University is looking for a
new external examiner with interests in a broad range of sociological
theory that includes classical sociology, cultural sociology, the sociology of
health and illness, social policy and political sociology. Our teaching is
underpinned by research conducted within two broad themes: 1.
Citizenship, social inclusion and inequalities; and 2. Health and the body.
Glasgow Caledonian University policy is that external examiners have
oversight of examination papers at all levels but only requires selective
moderation of work at Levels 3 (Ordinary pass degree) and 4 (Honours).
Modules use a variety of assessment methods that include coursework,
examination, presentations, wiki-projects and portfolio.
Anyone interested should be familiar with the post-1992 environment and
have had several years’ experience of teaching and the range of potential
assessment methods that can be used. The appointee would commence
their term of office with the new 2010-2011 academic year.
Those interested should contact Dr Kay Adamson in the first instance for
an informal discussion and/or further information.
If you wish to apply, please email a short CV and a cover note that
indicates relevant experience as well as awareness of the post-1992
environment to Dr Kay Adamson.
