CBM is an international Christian development organisation, committed to 
improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries 
of the world. Based on its Christian values and over 100 years of professional 
expertise, CBM addresses poverty as a cause and a consequence of disability, 
and works in partnership to create a society for all. CBM’s vision is: “an 
inclusive world in which all persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights and 
achieve their full potential”.
On January 12th 2010, a powerful earthquake (7.3 on the Richter scale) struck 
Haiti. It is estimated that about 230 000 persons died and more than 300 000 
were injured (Gvt. of Haiti, 11th Feb. 2010). 
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. The lack of infrastructure 
puts a huge stress on logistics, supplies and renders response very difficult. 
CBM has been working in Haiti for about 30 years and supports five national 
partners in various locations. 
In order to assist the national partners and to facilitate the implementation of 
CBM emergency responses in Haiti as best as possible, the International Office 
is requesting applications for a


CBM Country Coordinator for Haiti


Location: Port au Prince, Haiti

Contract Duration: 6 months minimum with a potential to extend for 2 years

Objective: The Country Coordinator will be responsible for the overall 
coordination of the emergency and post emergency response in Haiti in close 
coordination with the Emergency Coordinator and the CBM Regional Office for 
Latin America in Ecuador.


Main Tasks

•	To manage the country coordination office, through the set up of 
management systems
•	To manage a team of between 4 to 10 persons, with at least 2 project 
managers
•	To facilitate the set up of appropriate financial and narrative reporting 
systems
•	To support partners in implementing relief activities as planned and to 
further define strategy for reconstruction
•	To coordinate with other agencies / NGOs on disability issues and to look 
for new opportunities
•	To develop new proposals for the second phase (post emergency/ 
rehabilitation) and to increase CBM’s relationship with donors based in Haiti
•	To be responsible for security management and guidelines
Professional Profile and Requirements
•	Proven experience in managing projects in difficult situation
•	Knowledge of security management
•	Knowledge of disability issues is a plus
•	Good monitoring and evaluation skills
•	Good reporting skills, including financial management
•	Experience with designated funding management
•	Proven good organizational / logistic skills as well as a certain level of 
autonomy and flexibility

Personal Profile
•	A mature leader and capacity builder with sufficient self-confidence to 
delegate tasks and responsibilities
•	Intercultural knowledge and sensitivity
•	Excellent inter-personal skills
•	Team player and good communicator with a proven ability to motivate 
people
•	Overseas experience in a developing country and in emergency/crisis 
situation
•	Proven ability to perform and live in a multicultural working environment
•	French speaker (oral and written), good English (both oral and written); 
knowledge of Spanish is an added advantage
•	Knowledge of Haiti is a plus
