You wouldn't always want to publicise the current location of an object eg in store, in transit, being conserved...
The problem is that there is often a lot of geographical information about objects. A painting could have been painted in place a, by an artist from place b whose style reflects place c where he trained, & the painting could be made from materials from at least 12 other places - & the person who commissioned the work lived in place p, and then moved to place q...
You get the picture? [sorry just had to]
Think carefully and suggest the terms that you would use to define the geo-tag.
Ah, semantics! Controlled vocabulary... :-)
