To get the most from geo-tagging [like all tagging] I think it would be cool
to take a strategic approach; which audiences, which stakeholders, which
museum departments in your org might have a view on this? What about
educational uses? Tourism? Geo-tagging has all sorts of possible uses; if
you're tagging all your accessions based on current needs, what happens in a
year's time when we can all use platforms that make more use of location
data?
So - maybe do some internal and external informal surveying and mapping of
likely uses. Then devise a strategy for geo-tagging based on current and
future likely uses too. Myself, I'd like to see where things are right now,
too, which contradicts Mia's advice, but why not allow for collection object
tracking and 'nearness to me' factors? Surely that's relevant to people
[schools etc] planning museum visits.

Subject: Geo-tagging objects
What are people doing about geo-tagging objects?
If you are doing this do you geo-tag an object with where it is now
stored or where it was made?
