Hi all,
Friday's cosmology seminar will be held in Huxley 503 at 12pm, where we have HongSheng Zhao talking about:
"Universal scale for baryons at Maximum Halo Gravity"
I will interpret a very curious conspiracy of dark-bright matter in galaxies
(Gentile, Famaey, Zhao, Salucci 2009 Nature), insensitive to the sizes and
formation histories
of the observed galaxies: the baryons are concentrated to approximately the
same surface density at the very position where the halo offers locally maximum
gravity. While normal gravitational and gas feedback processes must always
occur, it is difficult to forge a feedback history-independent universal scale
unless there is some help from possibly new physics in the Dark. A partial
confirmation is seen in simulations of N-body where the matter is coupled to a
cosmological scalar field (Zhao, Maccio, Li, Hoekstra, Feix 2010, ApJ Letters)
As usual, this will be followed by lunch with the speaker. See you there!
