Mimas maintains a diverse portfolio of quality data and information services for
education and research. It is largely funded by grants from the JISC and the ESRC. As a
result Mimas has a wealth of experience in bid writing. Caroline Williams, Deputy
Director of Mimas will lead this workshop. She will share experience of applying for
funding for projects in a way which is easy to translate into other situations.
Aims
The one day workshop aims to deliver a practical overview of the bid writing process,
highlighting what works and common pitfalls. It will discuss approaching grant funding
calls, identifying suitable ideas for projects, and writing bids. The workshop will be
focused on applying for funding within the context of information services and will make
specific reference to JISC funding. The session will facilitate exploration of bid
writing ideas and situations specific to participants. By doing so, participants will
gain a greater understanding of the practical steps to success in bid writing.
Objectives
By the end of the seminar participants will have:
* A greater understanding of the bid writing process
* An overview of practical steps to take when approaching and writing bids
* An understanding of how these steps can be applied in real life situations
