I have found that the rise in PMR coincides with the rise in statin use
and ever higher doses. That could easily be one of the factors in your
young diabetics ( young for PMR anyway) I am certain that there is a
link. We had one patient immediately develop PMR within a week of
starting statins and another gentleman was able to walk having been
wheel chair bound while on statins.
Cholesterol is the main insulating substance in Schwann cells I think
from my preclinical learning, so the incredibly low cholesterol levels
we are asked to persue are likely to interfere with neurones action, I
wonder if that has an affect on pain production and also motor neurone
problems which seem reversible with discontinuation of statins?
