Dear All,
The GeolSoc, British Geological Survey (BGS) and NERC held a "forward look
workshop" for the future of (UK) Earth science research on 18-19 January
and are soliciting comments and suggestions for inclusion in the
final manifesto - see http://www.bgs.ac.uk/ukgeoscience/consultation.html
Please email Vicky Hards at BGS if you have any input
([log in to unmask])
The basis of the report is in the workshop reports on the web page
http://www.bgs.ac.uk/ukgeoscience/workshop.html
Especially interesting are the "Day 1 breakout group reports",
in which I am pleased to say there is a good mention of
geophysics. The BGA has noted the absence of global geomagnetism
and the Royal Astronomical Society alerted us to the absence
of planetary science, but it would be most useful if "geophysics"
list members based in the UK could let Vicky Hards know of any other
omissions or points that should be given greater weight.
Regards,
Sheila Peacock
BGA Secretary.
